Our trees are grown on the Hole Park Estate in the beautiful Weald of Kent, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where our dedicated staff, under the expert leadership of foreman David Purnell, tend the many acres of trees of all species, sizes and ages as they grow.

Each is individually shaped annually by a mixture of pruning, bud picking and leader tipping, according to the requirements of their species, over their life.

The plantations have become a haven for wildlife. Typically our trees are permitted to grow 30 cm (1ft) per annum once they have become established from selected seedlings.

Whilst our trees are not grown organically, chemical and fertiliser treatments are kept to a minimum and the plantations are full of wild flowers and insects. We have to fence them against rabbits and badgers, who would otherwise damage the trees.

Four principal species are grown for sale:

Norway Spruce (Picea Abies)
Nordman Fir (Abies Nordmanniana) (also known as Caucasian Fir)
Blue Spruce (Picea Pungens Glauca) (also known as Colorado Spruce)
Serbian Spruce (Picea Omorika).

Harvesting is left to the last possible moment to ensure that the trees are as fresh as possible so we do not start cutting before late November at the earliest unless specifically requested by the buyer.

This year we are moving to using VacuBioNet to wrap our trees, replacing hydrocarbon /oil  based tree netting with a vegetable starch compostable product. Many of our customers have been asking for this, and as we all take a more responsible attitude to the environment this is a natural option, though more expensive.

Our customers are typically independant nurseries, garden centres, retail outlets, clubs, churches or societies in Kent and East Sussex who seek a local supplier to whom we offer a bespoke one-off or weekly delivery of exact species, size and quantity required with no minimum order size. Delivery dates can be specified though smaller deliveries may need to be made when our van is in the area.
